Some things we store on your device keep Spliced working. Others tell us how the site is used, or whether our ads reach the right people.
The first kind is always on — without it you could not stay signed in. The other two only run if you say yes, and you can change your mind whenever you like.
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do share some of it with advertising platforms to measure our ads, and that is what the Marketing choice below turns on and off.
The Spliced website and web app, run by Grayfin Labs Inc. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers everything else we do with your information.
We say "cookies" as shorthand. It also covers local storage, pixels, tags and the rest. They work differently; your choices are the same.
Always on. Spliced does not work without them.
These keep you signed in, protect the forms you submit, remember your theme, and record your cookie choices so we do not ask again tomorrow. There is no off switch, because turning them off would turn off the site.
Off until you accept.
These tell us which parts of Spliced people use, where they get stuck, and what breaks. We mostly look at patterns across everyone. Most of what we build next comes from here.
It includes a rough location — the city an IP address suggests, not where you actually are. A future feature may ask for something more precise; if so, it will ask you separately.
Off until you accept.
We run ads on other platforms. These let us see whether those ads bring people to Spliced, and whether the people who arrive go on to sign up.
The platforms need to recognise a visit they sent us, and may use what they learn to shape the ads you see elsewhere. Some US laws count this as 'selling' your data, even though no money changes hands.
We do not show ads inside Spliced. If that changes, this page changes first.
We set the necessary and analytics storage, along with the providers who run those parts of Spliced. Marketing pixels are set by the advertising platforms themselves, so they — not we — decide how long their cookies last.
Those retention periods are the platforms' own and can change without us being told, so treat them as a guide. If we add or drop a provider, this list is the part that changes.
The first time you visit, we ask. Nothing in analytics or marketing loads before you answer. If you accept and later change your mind, the pixels stop straight away rather than at your next visit.
You can reopen the choice any time from the link on this page.
We ask again periodically
A choice does not stand forever. If you declined anything, we ask again after 180 days. If you accepted everything, after a year. We also ask again if we change what we use in a way your earlier answer would not cover.
Your browser can help too
Every major browser can block or delete cookies, and some send an automatic signal asking sites not to share your data. Blocking the necessary ones will break signing in.
The iPhone and Android apps use no cookies — they are not web pages, so there is nothing to set.
They use the same three categories for the same purposes, through the tools built into the app instead. Your choices live under Manage Privacy in Settings and work the same way.
Whether you are asked, and when, depends on local law and on your age. On iPhone, Apple also asks its own separate question about tracking — answering no there stops it whatever you told us.
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change affects what you already agreed to, we ask again rather than assume.
